Bruce V. Allen

Florida–based inspirational Jazz Musician Bruce Allen is best known for his collaborations with the dynamic duo, Allen & Allen, comprised of Allen Wiggins on saxophone and Bruce Allen on piano. They have received many accolades over the years, including winning twice the coveted Stellar Award and most recently Bruce garnered the Wayman Tisdale Jazz Award.

Born in East St. Louis, Illinois, Allen’s talent afforded him opportunities far more than one could imagine. Bruce V. Allen received his diploma from Lincoln Senior High School (The High School Miles Davis attended). Graduating from Bethune-Cookman University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, then later earning his Master of Organizational Management degree from the University of Phoenix. Allen immediately began to soar in the music industry. Performing at Carnegie Hall, NBC Today Show and opening for gospel greats such as Yolanda Adams and shared the stage with Jazz Saxophonist Kirk Whalum, Boney James and Melba Moore just to name a few. For many years Allen has made great strides, travelled the world, and remained humbled in all that God has blessed him to accomplish.

Finally, a few years ago Allen suffered from a stroke. This medical condition weakened his right side and affected his brain. It took away his ability to play fluidly. He asked God this question, “God what did I do so bad that You would take away my gift of playing?” God was silent for about a year, then Allen felt God spoke to his heart. God said, “If you trust me, I will do more with what you have left than what you had before.” After about a year of physical and speech therapy, what God said began to slowly happen with lots of hard work. Allen said from then on he would play with purpose.

Bruce V. Allen is married to his wife, A. Renita with two children Bruce (Jaila) and Candace (Freddie).
